Aesthetic is overlooked. If you’re paying over 400 for a bass, you absolutely have to love what it looks like.

The JHS 3 Series Phaser is pretty awesome! It's very swirly and deep. I bought it because it is one of the few phasers with a blend. Mine has a slight volume bump, but it sounds great.

This is the first song I learned on 6 string electric. 🎸 Not the lead part, just the main riff.

Stingray so crisp and defined

I use fretless and I love it but I also started the bass on an upright which might explain it. I love being able to slide my fingers across the board without any frets. I recommend it tbh 😊

In studio be open and willing to find what works for the recording.....but live ? ALL BETS ARE OFF. Most of the audience doesn't know the difference and doesn't CARE.

High end basses can be beautiful. My playing style is very simple. Fingers, four string, single passive pickup, 34" scale w/ labella flats. No slapin or poppin. Im happy with my 73 telecaster bass. My thoughts sometimes do go to a Nik Huber Rietbergen bass.

Buying a used better brand bass will hold value moreso than a new budget bass. A four string passive bass was ok for decades. Start there.

I started with 4 strings bass 10 years ago and it was so inconvinient having no bottom D that I sold it after a year of fruitless training. So when I bought a 5-string bass during COVID, it fitted so well in what I tried to play that I can't imagine playing my spare 4-string bass with full feedback now. B1 in a lot of songs sounds weak as hell

I do think a j bass is more versatile but I still think a mm is close, least versatile is the p bass, it only does p bass. P bass is good and sits in most mixes well but it’s very boring

I love the sound of the fretless so much. Im considering whether to get my first. I have been looking at the Sire V5 fretless or the Ibanez SR370Ef, but I've never had a chance to actually try out a fretless so I don't know if it'll be an expensive mishap. The Harley Benton Fretless is only £144 and has good reviews etc. Any in these comments or the video poster have any hands on experience with these? it's the Harley Benton mentioned in this video...?

I’m looking to buy a bass for in the studio ~ I mostly play guitar and keys and have been doing what I need to on a cheap bass from my uncle’s 80s band… Budget should stay ideally under 1k but there’s some air up to maybe 1.5k for the right bass… I would love a rickenbacker but I think that’s out of my league 😅 Any recommendations? Look wise I’m attracted to the fender vintera ii 70s tele bass but I’m open to anything really, I just want really solid quality and a reliable four string for years to come. I have big hands but mostly guitar so would also consider short scale.

Easy fix. M80 DI by MXR to emulate by amping by using the blend knob.

The best practice app for a bass guitar ever is the fender Rumble 25! I have a rumble 25 and a Rumble 100. I also have a fender BXR60. Which my 25 will put that BXR60 to bed. For only an 8" woofer. The Rumble 25 is a tiny beast I named BAM BAM. My first Rumble 100 I named Barney.

After the MM Stingray was revised a few years back i.e. pickups, electronics, ergonomics, the tone has been tamed especially in the treble so it really is in line with other active basses.

Why would you call a 5 string a one trick pony? It’s about 25% more tricks per pony than a 4 string pony

For me there is no comparison, if you listen with headphones, the analogue is much superior.

I do want one of these they sound great and are one of the nicer short scales I've played but I'm not in a rush

Yup: the bridge pick-up is killer, absolutely non-traditional Fender. This is a LONG bass -the short scale for players who don't want to be seen playing a short scale(!) I am an old fart traditional player and I am digging this big-time; can't wait to play this with my blues rock guitar friend. This is now being offered with a red finish on the Fender/Squire site. BTW: thank you for playing classic licks for tone reference.

The new cheap pedals are often better than the expensive ones which are only clones of Boss pedals mainly. If you work playing bass good luck but do you have the money for 300$ pedals. The 30$ pedals are often better because they are modified by engineers and don't have the private small companies spending thousands on creating a new pedal. Usually just a clone mod not a new circuit. Guitarists are usually uneducated but have these weird biased opinions with the any knowledge.. Buy the cheap ones and if you like them try out the expensive ones at a reliable shop
